Choreographers and Composers Lab 2015

The Choreographers and Composers Lab

6 – 17 July 2015

Phoenix Dance Theatre is delighted to be hosting a Choreographers and Composers Lab in July 2015; a two week intensive in our state of the art dance centre in Leeds.

Designed for professional choreographers and composers at an early stage of their career, the course will offer a rare opportunity to focus on the creative process of research and experimentation with the emphasis on composition in music and dance. The project will enable participants to experience collaborative approaches to creating work and developing partnership skills, in a challenging environment without the pressure to produce final results. Participants will take part in daily creative workshops, respond to creative tasks and explore new choreographic and compositional practices.

The course will be led by Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director & Choreographer Sharon Watson and Independent Music Director & Composer Ken Hesketh.

In total there are four choreographers and four composers, who will work with four musicians and twelve professional dancers, including Phoenix Dance Theatre Company Dancers.

Guest speakers include: Dr Jo Butterworth – Professor of Dance Studies at the University of Malta; Peter Wiegold – Composer and Head of Music Research at Brunel University London; Zoe Martlew – Composers and Cellist; Mike Dixon – Dance Critic; Didy Veldman – Choreographer; Robert Cohan – CBE, Founder of the London School of Contemporary Dance and Phoenix Dance Theatre Patron.

The Choreographers on the course are: Adrienne Hart, Mbulelo Nbabeni, Claire Lefèvre and Sandrine Monin. The Composers: Roberto David Rusconi, Nichola Scrutton, Sarah Westwood and Eloise Gynn.
