Youth Dance Platforms

As part of our commitment to provide performance opportunities and raise aspirations of young people, we are proud to host three youth dance platforms per year in the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre. Showcasing the very best in local, regional and national talent, we invite children and young people from a range of backgrounds to present their work in a professional theatre environment to audiences of up to 230 guests.

Yorkshire Youth Dance Platform 2017  Phoenix Dance Theatre is currently seeking youth dance groups who would like the opportunity to perform in our annual Yorkshire Youth Dance Platform 2017. This event aims to celebrate the skill and creativity of young dancers across Yorkshire and is an exciting opportunity to perform at the Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre in our building.

Previous years have included performances from DAZL Youth Dance Company, Shahck Out Juniors (RJC Dance), Dance United Yorkshire Performance Company and Phoenix Youth Academy. Last year 181 young people, from Leeds, Pontefract, Halifax and East Riding, all performed to a sold-out audience.

This year the Yorkshire Youth Dance Platform is taking place on Friday 31st March 2017. Due to the high demand we have received from youth dance groups in previous years, this year we are opening up an application process. To request an application form or for more information, please contact Sophie Wyatt on sophie.wyatt@phoenixdancetheatre.co.uk or 0113 236 8130.

All application forms must be returned no later than Friday 17th February.

ResTec takes place in November each year in reference to World AIDS Day. Raising awareness through dance, our practitioners work in five schools across Leeds during a six week period to create work exploring themes related to this topic. We also invite our Youth Academy and three youth dance groups from London to perform at this event. ResTec 2016 took place on Friday 2nd December, with a sold-out audience of 209 people.

Summer Youth Dance Platform brings together groups, schools and colleges whom we work with throughout the academic year in recognition of their achievements. This includes our Saturday School, Illuminate Dance, Schools Partnership Scheme and Phoenix Youth Academy. This year the performance took place on Friday 15th July 2016, with a sold-out audience of 224 people.
