Over the last 27 years, from small beginnings in inner-city Leeds, Phoenix Dance Theatre have grown to be one of Britain's leading contemporary dance companies. From our home in Leeds, the company tours nationally and internationally, bringing inspiring and entertaining dance to the widest possible audience.

Under Artistic Director, Javier De Frutos, Phoenix’s Artistic Policy is the maintenance of excellence in dance whilst exploring its evolution as an artform and its place in the 21st century. In achieving this aim, Phoenix selects choreographers of the highest calibre to work with our top-flight company of dancers, hand-picked from all over the world. Inspirations are vast and wide-ranging, from popular culture to classical art, and current affairs to entirely abstract concepts. Whether the dance is pure movement or fused with other contemporary artforms, the result is an eclectic range of innovative work, which is communicative and of the highest quality.

Phoenix Dance Theatre are committed to widening access to dance through our education and audience development programme. Company members have undertaken education work throughout our history and in 1998, we established a permanent education department to meet demand. Phoenix Dance Education is our team of committed dance education professionals, which works alongside the performing company to promote participation in the arts as a stimulating and creative pursuit within schools and community settings.
