Phoenix Dance Theatre return from the Venice Biennale International Arts Festival with Triumphant Reviews

Phoenix Dance Theatre returned to Leeds last month riding high on tremendous international success from our appearance at this year’s Venice Biennale festival. Playing to sold out audiences, our first visit to the landmark Italian arts gathering has been lauded by critics and audiences alike (the company received a 4-minute standing ovation on opening night.)

‘The 2007 Dance Biennale concluded with a masterpiece by Venezuelan Javier De Frutos performed by the wonderful dancers of Phoenix Dance Theatre’ La Nuova Venezia

‘With this show, De Frutos managed – finally and perfectly – to get to the heart of the Festival theme, Eros and Body!’ Il Gazzettino

The Venice Biennale, founded in 1895, is one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Involving all forms of contemporary art the festival has only ever invited the finest artists from around the globe. Phoenix Dance Theatre was amongst the welcomed British talent this year, appearing with artists and performers such as Tracy Emin and Michael Nyman.

Phoenix performed a triple bill of work by Artistic Director Javier De Frutos:
Paseillo, Los Picadores (specially commissioned by La Biennale) and Nopalitos.
