Join the Momentum – in partnership with Rugby League Cares
Phoenix Dance Theatre, in partnership with Rugby League Cares, was delighted to deliver a mass participation event in London as part of the Join the Momentum Programme in 2015.
We delivered 15 two-month summer intensive courses at 13 different locations, including 10 Rugby League Foundations. During this time, 450 young people aged 9-21 worked with Phoenix Dance Theatre’s leading practitioners to learn mass dance material choreographed by our Artistic Director Sharon Watson.
The piece Try Then/Try now was choreographed by her to celebrate 120 years of the Rugby League. Being inspired from the ups and downs of a game, she used extracts from live commentary spanning over a century and highlighted teamwork and dedication of those both on and off the pitch.
The Join the Momentum Programme brought all the 450 young participants down to the Wembley Stadium where they performed together Try Then/Try now during the half of the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final.
It was an incredible experience for all who took part in the programme. This exciting opportunity let them experience contemporary dance and brought many young people to the stadium for the first time.
Mass participatory events like this are an integral part of our Access and Education Department. It exemplifies our commitment to deliver high-quality dance to everyone.
