A tribute to Terry Cryer
14 Mar 2017
As a tribute to the work of Terry Cryer who passed away earlier this year, we’ll be featuring some his iconic photography of Phoenix Dance Theatre on our website over the next few weeks. This month we feature an image from ‘Gang of Five‘ taken in 1989.
Born in Leeds, Terry was involved with photography from the early age of 14. He lived and worked in Yorkshire for 30 years. A self taught photographer who considered himself to have been ‘lucky all his life,’ Cryer first made his name by photographing the legends of jazz and blues in England in the mid to late 1950’s. Phoenix Dance are delighted to have been captured in front of his lenses over the years. Terry made such a great contribution to Phoenix’s visual identity. His photography for the company and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance is widely admired.
