Born in Scotland, AJ grew up in a small fishing village in Kintyre where her love for dance began, making up dances in the school playground. AJ moved to Glasgow to begin her dance training at the Dance School of Scotland (DSS)
Upon graduating from DSS, she auditioned for a place on Scottish Ballets Youth Exchange at age 15. This led her to New York, performing in Manhattan’s Joyce Theatre with NYU Tisch Performing Arts. This also gave her the opportunity to attend workshops with Alvin Ailey, Mark Morris and NYC Ballet. Following from this opportunity she continued her training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds at age 17, where she completed an Access to Diploma course to then continue her training there, graduating with a first-class honours Degree in 2022.
In her final year of Northern, she gained the opportunity to work with Akram Khan during the research process for his Jungle Book production, and performed with Phoenix Dance Theatre at their 40th Anniversary at The Playhouse in Leeds.
