Maddie Irwin
Professional Placement Dancer

Maddie was born and raised in Northwest England where she started dancing at the age of 2.
At the age of 16, Maddie left home to attend Elmhurst Ballet School, where she completed three years of vocational ballet training, graduated with a Level 6 Diploma and had the opportunity to perform with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. It was at Elmhurst where Maddie was also introduced properly to contemporary dance and was recognised for her creativity after winning the Gillian Lyne Choreographic Award.
Upon graduation, Maddie moved to Sienna, Italy where she undertook a contract with Balletto di Sienna.
During her return to the UK, she worked with organisation such as WN Dance Company, Walk the Plank Arts (Ruth Jones), and Malvern in the Park where she performed in a variety of festivals and parades.
In 2022, Maddie moved to Leeds to join the Northern Ballet Postgraduate programme and had the opportunity to perform with Northern Ballet in the Nutcracker and Great Gatsby. Throughout the year, Maddie also began working with choreographer Sandrine Monin during their R&D process of Feathers. This work later led into the development of Unbound Dance Theatre, an inclusive dance company rooted in the accessibility of the Blind and Visually impaired community, whom she performed with in Spring 2024.
In 2023/24, Maddie joined Northern School of Contemporary Dance where she graduated with a First Class BA Honours degree following her year of contemporary study; she continues to study at NSCD as part of her MA Postgraduate Placement.
