About Vanessa:

Born in Hong Kong, Vanessa trained at The Royal Ballet School Associates and Rambert School of ballet and contemporary dance, graduating with a BA (Hons) in 2011.

Vanessa went on to join Phoenix Dance Theatre in 2011 as an apprentice dancer and continued her studies gaining a distinction for her Postgraduate Diploma with the London Contemporary Dance School. Since joining Phoenix Dance Theatre Vanessa has performed works by Richard Alston, Christopher Bruce, Darshan Singh Bhuller, Aletta Collins, Caroline Finn, Itzik Galili, Ivgi & Greben, Robert North, Henri Oguike, Didi Veldman and Sharon Watson amongst many others.

In August 2018 Vanessa was Dancing Times, Dancer of the month and later that year nominated in the Emerging Artist category at the acclaimed Critics’ Circle National Dance Awards.

Vanessa regularly teaches company class for the company and delivers workshops for schools, colleges, universities and conservatoires across the country. Vanessa has also taught and choreographed for the Centre of Advanced Training (CAT) Schemes. Axon, her most recent joint choreographic work with Sandrine Monin, was performed at the National Youth Dance Festival 2016.  In 2017 Vanessa worked with the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund directing and choreographing for the televised campaign Wear Red. More recently Vanessa co-directed, choreographed, and performed a short film I’m a Firefighter which was successfully selected to be screened at multiple film festivals both in the UK and US.  Vanessa is also an external examiner for the Northern School of Contemporary Dance degree course.
