Founded in Leeds in 2009, Phoenix Youth Academy offers high-quality pre-vocational training programmes for young, aspiring dancers aged 13-18 who are interested in pursuing dance as a career.

Throughout the year, students work with current and former Phoenix Dance Theatre dancers and internationally acclaimed choreographers. Students meet twice a week to develop strong contemporary dance techniques and performance skills.

Phoenix Dance Theatre is the UK’s leading contemporary dance company outside of London. For four decades we have performed, educated and inspired people across the UK and abroad. Many Youth Academy alumni have gone on to successfully audition for numerous leading conservatoires including:

Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, London Contemporary Dance School, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, The Ailey School, Institute of the Arts Barcelona, Royal Conservatoire Antwerp, Bird College, Laine Theatre Arts and Urdang Academy.

Two Phoenix Youth Academy graduates have succeeded in being category finalists in the BBC Young Dancer competition.

➤ Leeds Juniors (ages 13-15)
10 AM – 1 PM

➤  Leeds Seniors (ages 16-18)
2 PM – 5 PM

Applicants who are 12 years old by September 2026, may be considered for our Leeds Juniors cohort on a case-by-case basis. In exceptional circumstances, particularly talented applicants of this age may be offered a place, depending on their experience and skill level.
