Associate Artist Programme

Last year, we launched our Associate Artist programme as a platform for emerging artists to develop their practice.
Our Associate Artist Programme offers one selected artist the opportunity to work alongside the company across a period of six months to develop their creative practice through a range of opportunities. Associate Artists receive funding, in-kind studio space, and access to time with our company dancers to create work and develop their research and creative practice.
Associate Artists are free to develop work as they choose, which could be to choreograph new work for the company, to undertake R&D for a future work, or to concentrate on the development of a specific area of their artistic practice.
We prioritise female and global majority artists and are keen to appoint those who have had a previous relationship with the company, where possible, as part of our commitment to creating professional pathways in the sector.
Our Associate Artist for 2025/26 is Mayowa Ogunnaike.
Previous Associate Artists
Iolanda Portogallo was appointed as the company’s Associate Artist in 2024. Iolanda focused on developing choreographic work and spent time in the studio with our company dancers. She choreographed GYOCO 77 as part of our Digital Production, which launched online in October 2024. This work was then transformed into a live performance, GYOCO 99, and was performed as part of our Community Engagement Tour.
This programme has been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Fenton Arts Trust and Garrick Charitable Trust.
