Dancer Auditions 2022

DANCER AUDITIONS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THIS PRODUCTION

We’re holding auditions for contemporary dancers with a strong classical foundation and performance experience to join the company from January – June 2023 to deliver our third co-production with Opera North.

Reflecting the heritage of Phoenix Dance Theatre, we are particularly interested in receiving applications from Black, Asian and other global majority dancers who are interested in working in an open and collaborative environment.

You will join at a pivotal time for the company as we come out of a period of strategic review and kickstart the next exciting chapter for Phoenix Dance Theatre. Whilst proudly honouring the past and building upon our 40-year legacy, our aim is for the company to grow and innovate, and to continue to be recognised as one of the UK’s leading contemporary dance companies. We will be recruiting a new permanent company of dancers when our new Artistic Director is in place, but this is an opportunity to work with us now on a truly fascinating production.

You will work with multi-award-winning Guest Choreographer, and former Phoenix Artistic Director, Dane Hurst (a Dance Europe Critics’ Choice Director of the Year 2021-22) on the eagerly anticipated co-production of Requiem. Following on from acclaimed productions West Side Story: Symphonic Dances (choreo. Dane Hurst, 2021, Dance Europe Critics’ Choice Best Premiere 2021-22) and The Rite of Spring (choreo. Jeanguy Saintus, 2019), Requiem will be performed at Leeds Grand Theatre May/June 2023.

Phoenix Dance Theatre is committed to supporting the next generation of aspiring dancers, so as part of your role you will also support our acclaimed Access & Education programme by delivering repertoire workshops based on the work. In addition, you will support the company’s developing social media strategy in collaboration with the Communications department. Training will be provided where relevant.
