We’re pleased to be part of this year’s Discover! Creative Careers Week— highlighting the various pathways into the creative industries.

Discover Creative Careers is an industry-led platform focused on promoting diversity and widening access to creative careers by showcasing a variety of routes into the field.

At Phoenix, our Learning and Development Department is central to our mission. As our largest programme, it offers young people opportunities to develop their skills, enhance their dance abilities, and support their professional growth. We’re passionate about connecting individuals to the wealth of creative career opportunities available in our home city of Leeds.

Beyond Leeds, we also work across the region, delivering high-quality pre-vocational training programmes for aspiring young dancers.

As the creative industry continues to expand, we want to showcase the various pathways for young people to enter this field. We spoke with members of our Operations, Artistic and Education teams to highlight the diverse careers available in the dance world and the collaborative spirit that defines the arts. Many of our team members come from different creative backgrounds including those from our Artistic team who have a range of skills and experience in areas such as technical and lighting and wardrobe and costume design demonstrating that you don’t always need prior experience in dance to be a part of our company.

To help to understand the opportunities available, our team shared insights into their journeys, the roles they play at Phoenix, and valuable careers advice. Their stories offer a clearer understanding of the many opportunities awaiting young people in the creative industries and the pathways to accessing them.
