Phoenix Dance Theatre shortlisted for two awards at the Black British Theatre Awards

20 Sep 2019

We are delighted to have been nominated in two categories at the inaugural Black British Theatre Awards.

The Awards, which has been established to raise the profile and role that black Britons have made not only to this country’s artistic legacy, but the impact that their contribution has made on an international level will highlight the achievements and role models of all creatives across fields such as: design, composing, writing, choreography, direction, lighting, sound as well as the actor, dancer and signer.

In order to realise this ambition the BBTA will also issue scholarships for young black talent in the UK, enabling them to train in their chosen field and be mentored by industry professionals.

The first ever awards ceremony will take place in London on Sunday 27 October 2019 with Phoenix Dance Theatre being shortlisted in the Best Dance Production category for their reworking of The Rite of Spring and in the Best Dance Performance category for Prentice Whitlow’s performance in the same production.

You can catch The Rite of Spring being performed in Leeds at Phoenix at Home 2019 and nationally as part of the Company’s 2019 Autumn Season.
