We are incredibly proud that Phoenix Dance Theatre, Artistic Director, Sharon Watson has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts by Leeds Beckett University for her contribution to the arts and wider cultural sector.
Leeds Beckett University will award Honorary Doctorates to five distinguished individuals as part of its Graduation 2019 ceremonies which take place at the first direct arena 15-18 July.
Four of the 2019 Honorary Graduates, including Sharon, are alumni of the university. They are:
Kevin Sinfield MBE, Director of Rugby at Leeds Rhinos and England Rugby League Rugby Director will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Sports Science on Tuesday 16 July. Kevin graduated from Leeds Beckett University in 2008, achieving a BSc (Hons) in Sport & Exercise Science before returning and graduating with an MA Sport Business degree in 2015.
Sharon Watson, Artistic Director of Phoenix Dance Theatre, will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts on Tuesday 16 July. Sharon gained an MA in Performance Art from Leeds Beckett University in 2009.
Adama Bah, a lifelong advocate for responsible tourism in West Africa will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the University on Wednesday 17 July. Adama is an alumnus from the university’s MSc in Responsible Tourism Management course.
Martin Hibbert, Arriva Chief Financial Officer will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the University on Thursday 18 July. Martin graduated from Leeds Beckett University in 1989 with a BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance.
The quintet is completed by Keith Wakefield OBE, who will be awarded an Honorary Doctorate of the University on Monday 15 July in recognition of his service to the city of Leeds.
Professor Peter Slee, Leeds Beckett University Vice Chancellor, said: “We are celebrating the graduation of more than 8,000 students. We wish them all every success as they leave us to take up roles in business, finance, law, clinical and health sciences, social work, computing, journalism, education, sport and leisure, tourism and hospitality, creative and performing arts, architecture and design, the built environment, politics and entertainment.”
