Each year, the Northern School of Contemporary Dance acknowledges individuals contributing to the school and the cultural environment. This year, the award was given to Phoenix Dance Theatre Artistic Director Sharon Watson.

Sharon studied and later taught at the institution. “I am delighted to receive this accolade as my connection with the Northern School of Contemporary Dance stretches back to over 30 years”, she said accepting the award, “Northern School is a wonderful resource right here in Leeds […] and I am proud to have played a part in it.”

In her role as Artistic Director of Phoenix Dance Theatre, Sharon provides opportunities for young and emerging students to develop their talent. She also contributes to the development of arts and culture in the north of England through her programming, choreography and leadership.
