Phikolwethu (Phiko) joined Phoenix Dance Theatre in November 2023 as a Company Dancer having previously performed with the company with Jazzart Dance Theatre for our cross-cultural production of Requiem: Journeys of the Soul in Leeds (May 2023) and Cape Town (October 2023).

Hailing from East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa, Phiko began his dance journey in ballet, training at the renowned Heather Cooper School of Ballet, Cape Town, where he was the only male ballet dancer in the company. His exceptional talent was recognized when he received the prestigious Mable Ryan Award. Phiko’s passion for dance led him to Jazzart Dance Theatre, Cape Town, South Africa, where he began his journey as part of the 3-year full-time training programme. Following his training he became a dynamic and talented company member, showcasing his skills in numerous productions including their recent 50 Years of Dance Celebratory Festival.
