Rachel Thomson

Schools Lead

Rachel has danced and performed from a young age.

She went on to gain her BA(Hons) degree in Dance from Bretton Hall (University of Leeds). After completing her PGCE at the University of Bedfordshire, Rachel went on to teach dance in a London secondary school for a decade. Alongside her role at Phoenix, Rachel also works for the exam board AQA as senior moderator and scrutineer for GCSE Dance.

Rachel has experience choreographing musicals as well as contemporary dance and specialises in using Laban theory to devise choreographic and improvisation tasks. Rachel has delivered in her specialism at several teach-meets, including at a national dance teach-meet held at Rambert studios in London, and has been published on the subject in Dance Matters and Laban Guild magazine. The last time Rachel performed on stage was at the Royal Albert Hall when she had the privilege of choreographing two dances for performance alongside the Haringey music service.
