Tonderai Munyevu is a queer dramatist, actor and director whose work includes the UK Theatre Award-winning Mugabe, My Dad and Me. He co-founded and was Co-Artistic Director of Two Gents Productions, known for their reimagining of Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona (Shakespeare’s Globe, 2012).

His playwriting credits include Mugabe, My Dad and Me (Brixton House/York Theatre Royal/ETT), winner of Best New Play at the UK Theatre Awards in 2022 and a finalist for the Alfred Fagon Award in 2019; Mama Goose (Theatre Royal Stratford East, co-written with Vikki Stone); The INtimacy Test (CSSD); Mansfield Park (co-writer, The Watermill); The Moors (Tara Arts/Two Gents); and Zhe [noun] Undefined (Soho Theatre), with Antonia Kemi Coker and Chuck Mike.

As a director, his credits include The INtimacy Test and Baltimore (both at CSSD), as well as Cinderella (Lyric Hammersmith). As co-director, his work includes Mama Goose (Theatre Royal Stratford East, with Vikki Stone), The Importance of Being Earnest (Tara Arts/Two Gents), and Mansfield Park (The Watermill).

His work for radio and audio includes Nina Simone in Liberia (BBC Radio 4), The Last Chihoro (BBC Radio 4), A Tranquil Mind (BBC Radio 4), Mugabe, My Dad and Me (Audible), and Blaccine: Trigger Warning (Pitlochry Festival Theatre).

As a dramaturg, his work includes Inside Giovanni’s Room for Phoenix Dance Theatre and Bed Boy by Celine Kuklowsky (Edinburgh Fringe). His prose has appeared in The Johannesburg Book of Reviews, Black and Gay in the UK and The Queer Bible.

He is an inaugural recipient of the Jerwood Royal Court Commissioning Scheme, in partnership with York Theatre Royal, and has forthcoming work with Watford Palace Theatre, Millennium Arts Centre and Brixton House.
