Digital Programme 2024
4 - 11 October 2024
We’re delighted to announce the two new films created as part of this year’s Digital Programme.
Our Digital Programme initiative is dedicated to promoting the creation of digital dance content, **as** it is becoming increasingly vital in today’s world.
Digital dance extends the reach and accessibility of the art form, allowing dance artists to share performances and creative works with a global audience. This year’s digital films highlight the creative evolution of Associate Artist Iolanda Portogallo’s latest work and the continued artistic journey of Phoenix Dance Theatre’s Artistic Director Marcus Jarrell Willis, alongside Phoenix Dance Theatre’s dance artists.
These films will be available for exclusive online streaming for one week.
Film 1
Matter of Fact
by Marcus Jarrell Willis
The work celebrates the current dance artists of Phoenix Dance Theatre. As a dancer, one offers so much of themself, both on and offstage. Fuelled by passion for the art form and the care of one’s craft, the pressures for perfection and expectations can easily cause one to forget why the fire within was first ignited. The importance of remembering why they love what they do and continue to do what they love is the singular theme of the work. Simply put, we dance and it is a Matter of Fact.
“Nothing to Prove… Only to Share. Thank you for YOU!”
Film 2
Iola’s World
by Iolanda Portogallo
Created by freelance dance artist Iolanda Portogallo. Iola’s World is a new work that explores themes of surrealism with a blend of traditional elements of Italy’s Neapolitan culture with a futuristic dance perspective, all while centering music as a driving force. This piece brings to life the emotions and expressions of Phoenix Dance Theatre’s company dancers, resulting in an animated vibrant creation.
