Community Engagement Tour 2024: Public Performances

Thackray Museum of Medicine

Our Community Engagement Tour 2024 marked its first public performance by returning to the Thackray Museum of Medicine on Saturday 9 November. Our collaboration with Thackray began in 2023, marking the first year of the Community Engagement Tour. This year, we celebrated the 30th anniversary of The National Lottery by publicly making this event free to all visitors, making this accessible to everyone. Over 200 attendees joined us at the museum, experiencing contemporary dance in unique and unexpected spaces.

Audiences engaged with our company dancers through a special performance trail which showcased three diverse new dance works.

The trail began with GYOCO 99, choreographed by Associate Artist Iolanda Portogallo. Audiences were immersed in a world of surrealism, blending traditional elements of Neapolitan culture from Iolanda’s native Italy with a futuristic dance perspective, set against the backdrop of the Victorian Disease Street.

Following on from GYOCO 99, an exclusive insight led people to receive a sneak peek of what’s to expect in our Spring 2025 production of Inside Giovanni’s Room choreographed by Artistic Director Marcus Jarrell Willis’, finishing the trail came an ode to the current dance artists of our company with Matter of Fact which Marcus Jarrell Willis uses the quote “Nothing to Prove… Only to Share. Thank you for YOU!”

Trinity Leeds

At the heart of our lively city stands Trinity Leeds shopping centre, where for the first time, we performed before shoppers and passersby on Saturday 16 November. Located on the ground floor, directly across from the Apple Store, our company dancers showcased two performances of Matter of Fact, offering an unexpected glimpse of contemporary dance in a public space.
