Tonderai Munyevu announced as 2026/27 Associate Artist

We’re pleased to announce the appointment of Tonderai Munyevu as our new Associate Artist.
As a queer dramatist, actor and director, Tonderai’s work includes the UK Theatre Award-winning Mugabe, My Dad and Me. He co-founded and served as Co-Artistic Director of Two Gents Productions, known for reimagining Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen of Verona (Shakespeare’s Globe, 2012).
Our Associate Artist Programme provides artists like Tonderai with the time, space and support to develop their creative practice throughout their tenure. As our 2026/27 Associate Artist, Tonderai will work closely with our artistic team, with a particular focus on the development and creation of Sincerely, The Breakfast Club.
Following my involvement with their acclaimed production of Inside Giovanni’s Room, I’m delighted to be joining Phoenix as their new Associate Artist.
I’ve spent my whole career investing in storytelling, and now I find myself happily leaving text aside to tell stories through the medium of dance, a shift I find particularly gratifying for its accessibility and its direct relationship with an audience.
Already, the work is proving incisive, dynamic and deeply engaging. This extraordinary company of dancers, hailing from across the world, are led by Marcus with authenticity and rigour, alongside an equally remarkable wider team.
